Chelsea Culprit’s work entangles representations of the body’s capacity for work, play, display, expression, the performed authenticity of identity, and the intractability of freedom and personal bondage. Moving freely between the pictorial imagery of folk art and the materiality of the real world, Culprit’s works are composed of feelings as much as descriptions. Working variously with painting, neon light, sculptural assemblage, and installation, her work uses a composite approach to translate the ideologies of female identity which are used to define the gender binary.

DAVID RAPPENEAU is a French artist living and working in France. Paul P. (b. 1977 Canada) first gained attention for his drawings and paintings of young men that systematically re-imagined found erotic photographs along nineteenth century aesthetic modes. His portraits are appropriated from gay erotic magazines, specifically those produced in the years bracketed by the beginning of gay liberation and the advent of the AIDS crisis. Over the years his interest in transience, desire, cataloging, and notation has expanded his practice to include landscapes and their abstraction, biographical writing, and sculptural works in the form of furniture. His work is in the collections of MoMA, Whitney Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Hammer Museum, LACMA, and the National Gallery of Canada and other institutions.
